Biographie

Marc Sindou (France) University of Lyon, Neurosurgery Marc Sindou (MD, DSc, DHC) is Professor Emeritus at Lyon-University, France. Doctorat-in-Sciences was “Electrophysiological generators of the Human cerebral cortex” and MD-thesis “Dorsal Root Entry Zone as a target for pain surgery”, both in 1972. Training benefited from Fellowships: in Micro-neurosurgery with Pr.Yasargil in Zurich-University and Functional-neurosurgery in MGH/Harvard-University with Pr.Sweet. Surgical activity (#twenty- thousand surgeries) had several directions: 1)Functional-neurosurgery for Pain, Spasticity in Adults and Children, Epilepsy and Trigeminal Neuralgias; 2)Microsurgery of Giant Aneurysms, Meningiomas, Venous sinus repair and Cranial Nerve Compression Syndromes; 3)Neurophysiology applied-to-Neurosurgery. Experience was reported in: 12 books, 55 book-chapters, 750 publications M.S. was a Founding-member of the IASP (1976), President of the World-Society-for-Stereotactic-and-Functional-Neurosurgery (1997-2001), Vice-President of EANS (1999-2003), Teacher in the EANS-Training-Committee (1985-2014), President of the French-Speaking-Neurosurgical-Society (2007-2010), Past-Chairman of the WFNS-Committee for “Stereotactic-and-Functional-Neurosurgery” (2018-2021). He is acting President of the Scientific Committee (COS) of ELSAN Medical Group. 353 Invited-lectures were delivered in 61 different countries. Among international distinctions, he was awarded: European Lecture by EANS (2007), Spiegel and Wycis Medal by WSSFN (2009), Award of the Ten Masters in Neurosurgery by WFNS (2009), Award of Top-neurosurgeon for Cranial Nerve Disorders (2018), John Loeser Lecture by AANS in 2019, David Kline Lecture by AANS in 2021, and Medal of Honour of the WFNS (2023), EANS Award for Exceptional Service to European Neurosurgery (2023). He was honoured by 49 Visiting-Professorships, especially in the fields of Meningiomas and Functional Neurosurgery for Spasticity, Trigeminal Neuralgias, Management of Pain, especially on the topic of Surgery in the DREZ, a concept that he introduced and published in 1974.
