Biographie

Charles Marc Samama, MD, PhD, FESAIC Charles Marc Samama is 68 years old. He is working as a full Professor in the Department of Anaesthesia, Intensive Care and Perioperative Medicine, AP-HP Centre–Université Paris Cité (Cochin, Necker and HEGP University Hospitals), Paris, France. Professor Samama is the Past-President of the Network for the Advancement of Patient Blood Management, Haemostasis and Thrombosis (NATA). He is the Past Editor-in-Chief of the European Journal of Anaesthesiology and of the European Journal of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care. From January 2022 to December 2023, he has been part of the steering committee of the World Thrombosis Day. He is the past-Chair of the Scientific Committee of the European Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care (ESAIC) and also the founding Chair of the Scientific Subcommittee on Perioperative and Critical Care Thrombosis and Hemostasis of the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH). He has been renewned as a co-chair of this subcommittee. He now chairs the Department for Scientific Integrity in Assistance Publique-Hôpitaux de Paris. Professor Samama has published 269 peer-reviewed articles and reviews (H index = 50, Web of Science). He has co-authored the Antithrombotic and Thrombolytic Therapy: American College of Chest Physicians Evidence-Based Clinical Practice Guidelines 8th edition (“Prevention of venous thromboembolism”) and 9th edition (“Prevention in VTE in non-orthopaedic surgical patients”). He has co-authored the 10th edition (“Perioperative Management of Antithrombotic Agents”). He has co-authored the 2013 ESA Guidelines on Management of severe perioperative bleeding and the 2017 and 2023 updates. He chairs the ESAIC Task Force for the prevention on perioperative venous thromboembolism (Guidelines published in February 2018 and update in August 2024 in the Eur J Anaesthesiol, IF 6,8).
